The research vessel Helios-9, eight light-years from home. The lights hum blue, the coffee machine is broken again, and the ship's AI, MOTHER, watches every breath. It's the last shift before stasis. At 02:14 the airlock is emptied — with {slot:hale} inside. Airlocks don't open themselves. It takes a hand. The only question is whether the hand knew what it did.
